Famed as the winter skiing destination of the Royal Family, Klosters is the summer setting for the Klosters Music Festival in the heart of the Swiss Alps. As well as enjoying concerts by the Basel Chamber Orchestra and Malmö Symphony Orchestra including two of the most popular symphonies in the repertoire, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth and Brahms’s First, there will be scenic sightseeing trips on the train to St Moritz and, weather permitting, a cable-car ride to the Madrisa Lake for a lunchtime concert. Staying in the four-star Silvretta Parkhotel we will be at the heart of the Festival activity, enjoying the best in music and Swiss hospitality.
WED 1 AUG Fly from London Heathrow at 12hr15, arriving in Zurich at 15h05. Coach transfer to Klosters (approximately 2 1/2 hours) to check into the Silvretta Parkhotel. Welcome dinner at the hotel followed by traditional music played in various public spaces in the town, celebrating Swiss National Day.
THU 2 AUG Morning concert followed by lunch together, and the opportunity to explore the town, including the entertainment on offer in the “Festival Tent” situated outside the train station, or perhaps to take a ride on the cable car (free with the "Klosters Card" that you will be given) up to Gotschnagrat above Klosters. Dinner in the Hotel before the evening concert.
FRI 3 AUG Excursion by train to St Moritz to explore this chic town complete with its own “leaning tower”. We return to Klosters via Filisur down the steep gradient on which the railway line executes a series of loop-the-loops crossing over itself and the valley and into tunnels in the mountain, all combining to produce one of the most spectacular train journeys in Europe. There is then time in Klosters to relax or enjoy the “Festival Tent”. Early dinner and evening concert.
SAT 4 AUG Cable car ride and lunchtime concert at the Madrisa Lake (weather permitting) followed by a free afternoon and dinner and concert in the evening.
SUN 5 AUG Lunchtime farewell concert in Klosters followed by the transfer to the airport for the journey home.
