The beautiful Ossiacher See is located in the Carinthia region in Southern Austria. It was the summer retreat of the musical Berg family, and the Alban Berg Ensemble Wien has created a Festival of chamber music in Ossiach, centred around the new 500-seater Alban Berg Saal and the Pfaffkirche St Georg. As well as enjoying five concerts at the Festival, we will take a trip to the tiny village of Gurk where we will explore the extraordinary Cathedral with its splendid Baroque interior. We will stay at the Seewirt Hotel or similar overlooking the Lake and a short walk from the concert venues.
WED 29 MAY Fly from London to Vienna. Coach transfer (approximately 3 ½ hours) on the Sud Autobahn via Graz and Klagenfurt to check into the Seewirt Hotel in Ossiach. Dinner at the hotel.
THU 30 MAY Morning visit to Gurk Cathedral, built between 1140 and 1200 and one of the most important Romanesque buildings in Austria. We will have a guided tour of the Cathedral followed by an independent lunch in the village. Return to Ossiach to rest before an early dinner in the hotel followed by the evening concert.
