22 to 30 May 2024 Italy from Cremona to Rome SOLD OUT

This holiday begins in the charming city of Cremona, where the great violin makers, Amati and Stradivarius, plied their trade, before travelling on to Florence and the "Eternal City" of Rome. After three nights in Cremona, with visits to the Stradivarius Museum and a concert in the Auditorium, and to violin-makers' workshops, we move on to Florence stoppiong en route at Verdi's birthplace at Roncole. During our stay in Florence we will take a day trip to the walled city of Lucca, visiting Puccini's birthplace and his private home on the shore of Lake Massaciuccoli. On our journey down to Rome we will stop for a wine tasting and lunch at Decugnano die Barbi, on arrival in the "Eternal City", there will be private tours of the Colonna Palace and Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. Along the way there will be music: concerts at the Auditorio in Cremona, four private recitals in Cremona, Torre del Lago, in Florence from the pianist Roberto Prosseda, and an a cappella performance by the Cappella Musicale Lauretana in the San Pellegrino Chapel at the Vatican.


WED 22 MAY Independent arrival at Milan Malpensa airport at 12h00 for coach transfer to Cremona for an afternoon check in at the DelleArti Design Hotel and welcome dinner at the nearby Il Violino restaurant.

THU 23 MAY Short walk to the Stradivarius Museum for a guided tour followed by a short performance at 12h00 in the Auditorio of the Museo del Violino before lunch together at the Museum Cafe and a visit to a violin-makers' workshop in the afternoon. Dinne together at the Hosteria 700 in Cremona.

FRI 24 MAY A trip out of Cremona to Castello di Rivalta where we will have lunch and a private recital before returning to Cremona fo dinner together at Il Violino.

SAT 25 MAY 10h00 departure by coach the short distance to Busseto to see the charming Verdi Theatre, and then on to Roncole for lunch and a tour of Verdi's birthplace. After lunch we journey on to Florence where we stay at the Palazzo Castri Hotel and have dinner together.

SUN 26 MAY Morning tour of the famous Uffizi art gallery before lunch under your own arrangements. 16h15 departure from the hotel for the short coach journey to the Accademia Cristofori for a lecture recital by the pianist Roberto Prosseda who will demonstrate to us the Schantz and Graf pianos which are part of the collection at the Accademia. After the recital we take the short walk to the Westin Hotel where we will have a private dinner on the top floor Sesto Restaurant affording us magnificent views of the city of Florence with its Magnficent Duomo taking centre stage. Back by coach to the Palazzo Castri hotel after dinner.

MON 27 MAY A day trip out of Florence! 08h30 departure from the hotel by coach to Torre del Lago where we will have a private tour of Puccini's home on the shore of Lake Massaciuccoli. After lunch together, and a private vocal recital at Torre del Lago, our coach will take us to Lucca, stopping en route for ice cream at the La Cremeria just outside the city - these ice creams are purported to be the most wonderful in Italy! Arriving in Lucca we will have a private tour of Puccini's birthplace and a chance to explore the city before dinner together at Fattoria la Torre in nearby Montecarlo. Coach back to Florence after dinner.

TUE 28 MAY We depart Florence at 09h30for the journey down to Rome. En route we will stop for a wine tasting and lunch at Decugnano dei Barbi before continuing on to Rome where we arrive and check in at the Rome Cavalieri Hotel at around 17h00. Dinner together at the hotel.

WED 29 MAY Morning tour of the Colonna Palace before lunch together in a nearby restaurant. In the late afternoon we transfer to Vatican where there will be a private performance by the Cappella Musicale Lauretana in the San Pellegrino Chapel. After the concert, we enter the Vatican for our own private tour of the Museum and Sistine Chapel, followed by a buffet dinner in the Pine Cone Courtyard in the centre of the Vatican complex. Coach back to our hotel afterwards.

THU 28 MAY Independent departure home. A coach will be available to take you to Rome Fiumicino Airport at 06h15. Otherwise, there is the option of taking the short taxi ride to the city's main rail station and the airport train later in the day.

Travel Information

This holiday begins and ends with independent arrival in Milan and departure from Rome.

Travellers can either join the coach which will depart from Milan Malpensa Airport at 12h00 on Wednsday 22 May or make their own way to Cremona to check in to the DelleArti Design Hotel from 15h00.

On Thursday 30 May, a coach will depart from the Rome Cavalieri Hotel at 06h15 to go to Rome Fiumicino Airport. Alternatively, travellers can make their own way to the Airport later in the day.

If travellers wish to arrive some days early in Cremona or stay some days later in Rome, additional hotel nights can be arranged.
